This is my 3-year-old daughter’s first training-wheel bike. We got her the 14 inch because he’s tall for her age. The bike was simple to put together and appears to be well-made. It’s a hit with her! He rode it for well over a mile down a paved path and was eager to continue! For new riders, it appears to be very stable. The only criticism is that it is very heavy. We like it a lot!
The bike is a decent size and will be ideal for my daughter. She was so enamored with the bike and the basket that she declared that she was going to put her younger brother in the basket and ride around with him. Forget about the fact that he’s already 30 pounds and running around. Laugh out loud!! We haven’t used it much yet, so I can’t comment on longevity, but I’m hoping it will last.
Pros:
• It appears to be exactly like the photo.
• It is a good size.
• The pink color is quite cool.
• The basket is great for putting a little doll.
• Easy to assemble I bought the 14 in. because my three-year-old is very tall.
• It came with all the tools required for assembly.
• It has a little squeaky fish to use as a bell I was able to do it without the help of my husband (also a con, see below).
• The price is reasonable.
Cons:
• The personalization stickers only come with one set of letters, so I couldn’t put my daughter’s name on the bike (I wanted two of the same letter).
• The squeaky fish is difficult to press to create a sound. My 3-year-old is unable to click and squeak it while running.
The bike is fantastic, and my daughter absolutely adores it! It’s really good and strong. Perhaps better, the customer service! A few weeks before my daughter’s birthday party, a stray dog showed up at our door. I tried unsuccessfully to locate the family, but being the kind people we are, we took her in. All of her vet visits and spaying is paid for by us. No good deed goes unpunished, as the saying goes. My heart sunk the day after my daughter’s party when I went out to the garage to get something. Her new bike had been chewed to pieces by our lovely stray. The baby seat, the basket, the handle bars, and the pedals are all included. Her teeth had a field day for everything rubber or plastic.
I used to work in a bike shop that specialized in low- to mid-priced bicycles while I was in college. I spent a lot of time putting them together and fixing them. Lower-end bikes frequently had numerous problems, such as bent parts, untrue spokes, misaligned brakes, and so on. I had never heard of the Royal Baby brand before, but after reading other customer reviews, I decided to purchase one for my eight-year-old daughter. Of course, I gave it my regular thorough inspection when it arrived. At first glance, the pieces seemed to be of decent quality. The welds were solid, and the finish was flawless.
I was under the impression that this bike was of higher quality than those sold at the nearby discount store, but I was mistaken. Anyone with a basic understanding of mechanics could easily put it together. The hubs, bearings, and everything else that rotated, on the other hand, were of poor quality. On a smooth, hard surface, my 4-year-old daughter had to work hard to ride this thing. I tried everything I could think of (except disassembling the hubs) but nothing helped. Going downhill, this thing will come to a halt! Bad craftsmanship.
The brakes alone are possibly worth $2! Horrible standard, well below what I would want to entrust with my baby’s safety.
